My weekend away

I had a wonderful trip to Arizona last weekend. It was too short but something I needed. I stayed with my friend Ann in her beautiful home. Her home is one of those places where you feel comfortable right away. It's hard for me to believe that we met each other online and that we haven't been friends forever. We see each other once a year if we're lucky, we don't talk on the phone much at all-just emails, texts and Facebook-yet we are able to just pick up where we left off when we are together. We talked alot!! I was also able to spend time each day with Erin, another one of those friends that you have an instant connection with and someone that you can share everything with. Evan and her daughter Sara have dealt with many of the same issues-they are the same age and were both born with laryngeal webs so we've both been through the airway reconstruction surgery, voice clinic, voice therapy, etc. Ann and I went to Sedona for a few hours on Sunday. We had a great time shopping, eating and doing a little Arizona wine tasting! Who knew they made wine in Arizona? Thank you my friends for a wonderful weekend!

My son the doctor

When I'm old and grey, I will take great pleasure in introducing my son the doctor to all my cronies. Hopefully I won't be shuffling around in a home or anything when it happens but at happy hour at my condo in, hmmm, I don't know yet. It just won't be in Ohio, that much I know!

Wonder how many?

Last week, when we got home from Evan's scope, I grabbed a scissors to cut off our hospital ID bracelets and that got me thinking. How many bracelets have I had to cut off over the years? I can't even begin to count. I think it would be too overwhelming! Bunny would have as many as the rest of us. :-)

Maybe over the weekend...

I have a few blog ideas but I think they'll have to wait until the weekend. I'm way too tired from my trip to Phoenix!

Holy sh*t, I'm 47

I will probably say that every year. "Holy shit, I'm 50, 60, etc.!!". I had a nice birthday. Evan was still on break so we were able to spend the day together. We didn't do much other than eat! Tim Horton's for breakfast, Taco Bell for lunch and BWW for dinner. We played with the Wii and I even took a little nap. THEN I went out with some friends and proceeded to drink beer and sing karaoke! My friend Amy gave me the pic of Jon Bon Jovi-so freakin' funny!! Evan gave me the tulips (which I love) and we all went to the store on Thursday to buy my Trollbead bracelet. I picked out three beads and then Mike and Evan each picked one. So, I picked out the glass one in the middle which is of roses (for my mom), one called angel wings for my dad, and the heart ball. Evan picked out faith, love and unity and Mike got one that represents Pisces. Now, the next one I want to buy is called three siblings which will represent the three of us-Liz, Jay and me. I love it!

The new car

No, it's not mine. It's my mom's!! She decided last week that she wanted a new car. She asked me on Tuesday when she was here to look up the blue book value of her van. Well, by Wednesday afternoon, she was at Buckeye Ford looking at cars. Once she gets something in her head, well, that's it. A trait that has been inherited by her daughters, right Liz? She decided on a Ford Escape. The dealer had a white one but she wanted red. Whatever Rosemary wants, Rosemary gets so they called around and found her a red one. She is so excited by this car. At age 82, this is the very first brand new car she has bought on her own. She loves the satellite radio that she gets for free for 6 months. She's been listening to the 40s station. :-) I'm just so happy for her. Mike said he's not seen her so excited over something in a long time if ever. She deserves it and I can only hope I have her same spunk and spirit when I'm her age! I just love her so much and love everything about her. I learn more and more from her each year and can only hope I am as good a mom to Evan as she is to me.

The three doctors

There was a neonatal services retreat today at the hospital. As I sat and listened to one of the speakers, I looked around and realized that all three doctors that worked on Evan the day he was born were there. The neonatologist that was in the delivery room at OSU (I found out later that he prayed for Evan during delivery and transport to Children's), the neonatologist in the NICU (he is now at St. Ann's) and the surgeon that performed surgery on him not only the day he was born but 13 days later when his esophagus was repaired. Little did they know what an impact they had on our lives, what a difference they made and how we will never forget them.
